Mt. Pleasant Baseball Programs

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

RECREATION AND DIXIE BASEBALL LEAGUES:

For ages 8 – 14 years old. Practices will begin March, 2008. Games will be played weekdays with occasional Fridays and Saturdays. Each participant will receive a shirt and hat. Post-season tournament will be held at the end of the regular season. No games will be held during Spring Break, however, practices will be permitted. All stars will be selected in both the Recreation and Dixie Leagues. Please refer to the information sheet and the Recreation vs. Dixie League flyer at the time of registration for additional information pertaining to the Recreation and Dixie Baseball Leagues.

 

SENIOR BASEBALL LEAGUE:

15 – 19 years old Summer Lowcountry League. Proof of birth date required. Games will be played throughout the Charleston area with games beginning on or around May 26, 2008 and continuing through mid-July.

 

TRAVEL BASEBALL LEAGUE:

Designed for the highly skilled, serious, dedicated Baseball players. Teams are offered for 13U, 14U, and 15U-18U. A total of 30 to 50 games will be scheduled throughout the Spring and Summer months to include State and National tournament play for those teams that qualify (13U -14U). 15 - 18U will play mostly in the Charleston area with a maximum of 2 out of town tournaments. Players are evaluated throughout the year with a final tryout scheduled before team selection. The Mt. Pleasant Diamond Warriors Booster Club is a non-profit organization designed to offset many of the associated travel team expenses. Please refer to the information sheets provided at the time of registration for additional travel team information.

Summer 2008

T-Ball League: For children ages 5 & 6 as of January 1, 2009. Proof of birth date required.

  • Practices will begin Mid-May.
  • Games begin around the middle of June and continue through July.
  • Rules are modified to introduce the children to the game of Baseball and Softball while insuring a safe playing environment and loads of fun.
  • Games are played throughout Mt. Pleasant.
  • Softer training balls will be used for all games.
  • Volunteer coaches are needed. Please call Vicky Kerner if interested.

Machine Pitch League: For children ages 7 & 8 as of January 1, 2009. Proof of birth date required.

  • Practices will begin mid-May.
  • Games begin around the middle of June and continue through July.
  • Players are now able to work on hitting a controlled oncoming pitch.
  • An umpire will be provided to operate the machine and make calls at the bases.
  • Games are played throughout Mt. Pleasant.
  • Softer training balls will be used for all games.
  • Volunteer coaches are needed. Please call Vicky Kerner if interested.

Fall 2008

Instructional Baseball: For children ages 8 - 14 as of April 30, 2009. Proof of birth date required.

  • The Citadel Baseball Coaching staff & players are back this season! Coaches Fred Jordan, Chris Lemonis, David Beckly, and David Griffin, along with the Citadel Baseball players are excited and anxiously looking forward to another great Fall season.
  • Sessions will begin mid-September and will continue through October.
  • Sessions will be every Monday and Wednesday, 6:15pm – 8:00pm at the Duffy Complex on Center Street.
  • Instructors will teach, umpire and coach participants at each field. Games will be pick-up at each site after an instructional period each session.

Lowcountry Baseball League: For children ages 9 - 18 as of April 30, 2009. Proof of birth date required.

  • This league is designed for the players in the Fall looking for competitive, local play without extensive travel obligations. Players selected to a team will compete throughout the Charleston Area (Goose Creek, St, Andrews, James Island, North Charleston, Summerville, etc.) A tryout will be held for evaluations and placement of players on teams.
  • Games will begin mid-September through mid-November.
  • Coaches are needed. If interested contact Ryan Johnson or fill out the coach's volunteer form at the time of registration.

Travel Baseball League: For children ages 11 - 16 as of April 30, 2009. Proof of birth date required.

  • Designed for the highly skilled, serious, dedicated Baseball players. Players are evaluated throughout the year.
  • Games will begin the beginning of September and continue through November.
  • A minimum of six (6) and a maximum of eight (8) tournaments will be scheduled to take place on weekends only for each age group.
  • Most tournaments will be scheduled in the state with a maximum of two (2) tournaments out of state.
  • Minimal weekday play can also be expected to make a total of 25 – 35 games for the Fall season.

Batting Cages

MPRD has batting cages located at numerous facilities. Two (2) batting cages and pitching machines are available for use at the R.L. Jones Center. Alvin P. Sloan Park, Duffy Complex at Center Street and the Park West Complex each have a batting cage available for use. Call the Athletic office at (843) 884-2528 to reserve practice time at no charge. Adult supervision is required at all times in the batting cages. Please observe all posted rules at the cages.
